The US Army used a tactical ploy in preparation for the June 22 attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, The New York Times reported, citing insiders.
"To create confusion during the attack planning, military officials decided to send two groups of B-2 bombers from Missouri at approximately the same time..." the publication reported.
According to unnamed sources, the US Air Force used a sophisticated scheme to mislead the enemy. One group of aircraft flew toward Guam in the Pacific Ocean with their transponders on so that Iranian leaders could track their movements through private satellite systems.
As the NYT pointed out, seven B-2s with bunker busters were simultaneously moving covertly toward the territory of the Islamic Republic with their aircraft transponders turned off. According to the journalists, this maneuver was designed to create a false impression of the real plan of the US strikes.
In turn, the same publication previously reported on the desire of paramilitary groups loyal to Iran to begin military operations against American units in Syria and Iraq.
