The case of the former deputy chairman of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic government for health care has been transferred to court

According to the regional prosecutor's office, the group included several employees of the Republican Clinical Hospital (RCH) - the deputy chief physician for economic issues, the chief accountant and other accounting employees, the head of the pharmacy, the head of the accounting and control department for the provision of paid services, as well as two individual entrepreneurs and other persons. The defendants are believed to have acted under the leadership of the chief physician of the RCH - from the end of December 2015 to December 2020, this post was held by Irina Gerbekova.
According to the investigation, from September 2015 to October 2022, the defendants stole budget funds allocated for the renovation of premises, the supply of construction and household goods for the needs of the RKB. The prosecutor's office also reports that money received from the medical institution's income-generating paid activities was allegedly embezzled. To do this, the defendants allegedly prepared fictitious contracts, certificates of completion of work, payrolls and financial documents.
In total, the amount of funds possibly stolen amounted to 30 million rubles. In the summer of 2023, when Gerbekova was detained, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia believed that she could have been involved in the theft of more than 100 million from the budget during the purchase of medical equipment and medicines.
Irina Gerbekova headed the RKB from 2015 to 2020, then headed the regional Ministry of Health, and from October 2021 to June 2023 she worked as Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic. In this position, she oversaw the healthcare sector and the social block.
The criminal case against Gerbekova was initially opened under Part 3 of Article 210 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (organization of a criminal community using official position) in June 2023. Seven defendants were detained at that time.
