In Russia, it is necessary to abolish the road toll system "Platon" for heavy-duty vehicles. This proposal was made in the State Duma, RIA Novosti reports.
This, according to the authors of the initiative, will help support Russian enterprises in various industries. It is also proposed to make travel on toll roads free for certain categories of citizens.
"We need to exempt any Russian heavy-duty transport from paying for travel within the Platon system. This will eliminate unnecessary expenses for transport companies, support industrial and agricultural enterprises, and reduce the burden on citizens' wallets," the statement says.
Currently, over 1.5 million trucks are officially registered in the Russian Federation. The cost of travel for them on "Platon" is 3.5 rubles. And for long routes, a decent amount is added on, deputies believe. Therefore, the abolition of the fee will reduce prices and basic products.
The authors of the initiative also insist on benefits for several categories of citizens. Disabled people, car tourists, pensioners, and large families should be able to travel on toll roads for free.
