The end of the escalation between Iran and Israel could affect the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said in an interview with CNBC.
In his opinion, the inspiration and optimism that is observed as a result of what happened may well spread to Russia and Ukraine.
"We hope that people will look at what happened in Iran and say, 'We want to be part of the peace process, too.' We hope that will lead to very, very, very good things happening in the peace process between Russia and Ukraine," Witkoff said.
On June 13, the conflict between Iran and Israel escalated. Then the Israeli army attacked Iranian nuclear facilities and neutralized several high-ranking military officials. In response, Tehran began shelling Tel Aviv with missiles and drones. On June 22, the United States joined the conflict. American troops struck three of the Islamic Republic's main nuclear facilities - in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.
On the morning of June 24, Iran and Israel declared a ceasefire. Two hours later, Tel Aviv said it had violated the ceasefire after more missiles were launched from the Islamic Republic. Later, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that the Israeli Air Force had retaliated by striking a radar station near Tehran. After a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Netanyahu, Israel refrained from further attacks.
