MOSCOW, November 8 – RIA Novosti. State Duma Deputy Speaker Boris Chernyshov (LDPR) sent a letter to Central Bank Chairwoman Elvira Nabiullina proposing a moratorium on mortgage payments during maternity leave. RIA Novosti has obtained the document.
"In order to implement the objectives of state demographic policy and strengthen social support measures for families with children, I believe it is necessary to develop and legally enshrine a mechanism for granting the right to a moratorium on mortgage payments during parental leave," the document states.
It is noted that this measure allows a family to suspend payments of the principal and interest on a mortgage loan for a certain period upon the birth of a child, until the child reaches the age of one and a half years.
He believes the proposed initiative will help alleviate the financial burden on young families during this most challenging period, reduce stress levels, and improve parents' well-being.
