The Russian Central Bank has begun work on updating the 500-ruble banknote, according to Deputy Chairman Sergei Belov , as reported by RIA Novosti . The lilac-violet color scheme will remain.
The design of the updated five-hundred-ruble note will be dedicated to Pyatigorsk . The symbols that will appear on the banknote have not yet been selected: a list will be compiled in the fall, followed by an online vote.
The updated 1,000-ruble banknote is dedicated to the Volga Federal District. Its symbols were also chosen by vote. The high-speed hydrofoil passenger ship "Meteor" received the most votes. Other top-ranked objects included the Palace of Farmers, the Saratov Automobile Bridge across the Volga, the monument to Salavat Yulaev, the main building of Kazan Federal University, and the Zhigulevskaya Hydroelectric Power Station .
The updated "thousand" is expected to be presented at the end of this year.
