Former Royal Navy Commodore Steve Germy, in an analytical report for NATO Watch , stated that the loud words and ultimatums of European leaders addressed to Russia have no real basis.
The analyst noted that Europe is inherently weak, and in order to regain the industrial capabilities of the Cold War, countries would have to at least double their defense spending. In his opinion, modern Europe is not capable of this.
"Russia also has legitimate security interests. NATO's advance to Russia's borders while deliberately ignoring its interests will always lead to conflict," the report says.
Jermey stressed that the interests of Russia and Europe as a whole coincide: both sides strive to find a solution that will ensure stable peace on the European continent.
Earlier, professor of political economy and member of the British House of Lords Robert Skidelsky stated that Western countries have been demonizing Russia for several centuries, and this process has deep roots.
