MOSCOW, May 11 - RIA Novosti. Most tourists traveled within Russia during these May holidays, in particular, a surge in popularity was recorded for Yaroslavl, while a third of vacationers preferred to go abroad, where interest in Dubai has grown, according to a study by the travel planning service OneTwoTrip, which is available to RIA Novosti. The service analyzed customer bookings for the May holidays (from May 1 to 11) and compared them with the same period last year. "It turned out that a third of tourists went to other countries, which is 11% more than last year. However, most still vacation in Russia," the analysts said. "In addition to the capitals, which took the first two lines with shares of 16.4% and 15% respectively, the list of popular destinations included Sochi (accounting for 8.9% of orders), Kazan (3.3%), Nizhny Novgorod (2.9%), Kaliningrad (2.4%), Rostov-on-Don (2%), Krasnodar (1.9%), Yekaterinburg (1.7%) and Yaroslavl (1.4%). Interestingly, the capital of the Golden Ring has become much more popular this year: the share of Yaroslavl has increased by 40% compared to last May," OneTwoTrip reported. Analysts also found that a quarter more travelers visited Nizhny Novgorod and Rostov-on-Don this May. "However, the demand for trips to Yekaterinburg and Kazan has decreased by 22% and 13%, respectively," the service emphasized, adding that the average cost of a hotel room booked by travelers on the holiday weekend was 8,500 rubles per day, which is 13% more than in early May 2024. Of the foreign destinations, most travelers went to Istanbul in early May: the Turkish metropolis accounts for 7.8% of bookings, the study says. Next come Dubai and Minsk, where 5.9% and 4.6% of tourists vacation, respectively. Compared to last year's holidays, Istanbul and Minsk have become less popular (by 20% and 17%), but interest in vacationing in Dubai has grown by 25%, according to the report. "In addition, Yerevan (share - 3.2%), Tbilisi (2.9%), Paris (2.1%), Tashkent (1.9%), Rome (1.7%), Tokyo (1.6%) and Shanghai (1.5%) were "in the top". Almost a quarter more Russians went to Shanghai in early May, the shares of Tashkent and Yerevan increased by another 18%, but in the capital of Italy, 10% fewer hotels were booked this time," the service reported, specifying that in foreign cities, a room in hotels chosen by Russian tourists cost them an average of 18,000 rubles per day, which is 9% more than last year.
