Sporting will be looking to start the I Liga season on the right foot this Friday, having failed to win the Super Cup against Benfica. This time, the opponent is Casa Pia, the host of the two-time national champions, in Rio Maior, once again their borrowed home ground for matches in the top flight of national football.
Rui Borges is expected to virtually repeat the starting lineup that played at the Estádio do Algarve. The only question is who will be the striker. Conrad Harder started against the Reds, but Luis Suárez, formerly of Almeria, showed excellent performances when he came off the bench during the second half.
"He worked hard to play, just like Harder. They dedicated themselves to training and to what was asked of them in terms of strategy and forwards. They're two good solutions, with different characteristics. Depending on what we think is best, we'll soon see who will play," the national champion coach explained.
It is important to note that Vagiannidis and Ricardo Mangas have already been officially confirmed and are therefore ready to aim for their debut with the lion on their chest.
"They're good options for the full-backs, players we've identified. Vagiannidis has been highly regarded for some time. We've given the squad a high standard for the competitions we're competing in. We want to provide good solutions," Rui Borges stated in a press conference ahead of the match.
The game is scheduled to kick off at 8:15 pm (Continental Portugal time), with refereeing led by Gustavo Correia, and you can follow the match live on Desporto ao Minuto .
