Young Portuguese man arrested for running over woman in Mallorca

A 19-year-old Portuguese man was arrested for attempted murder, accused of having intentionally run over a woman in Magaluf, on the island of Mallorca, who remains hospitalized in serious condition.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday , when five people were returning home after finishing work in Magaluf, in the municipality of Calvià, Spanish police detailed in a statement quoted this Thursday by the Efe agency.

On a street with limited traffic, a stopped vehicle attempted to run over the group, who reprimanded the driver for his actions.

The young driver reacted by accelerating several times to intimidate the group, reversed abruptly and ran over pedestrians, leaving one of the women seriously injured .

According to local police, the driver fled, with medical services providing assistance to the victim, who was transported to the Son Espases University Hospital in Palma, where he remains hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The Civil Guard began a search operation and analyzed security cameras in the area to locate the alleged perpetrator of the accident.

Hours after the incident, the driver voluntarily appeared at the police station and confessed to what had happened . The police also noticed marks from the strong impact on the vehicle.
