Braga. Fernando Alexandre will preside over the Municipal Assembly.

Fernando Alexandre, from the Juntos por Braga coalition (PSD/CDS/PPM), was elected president of the Braga Municipal Assembly this Monday, with 39 votes.
As secretaries, Fernando Alexandre, who is the current Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, will have Serafim Rebelo and Maria do Pilar Teixeira.
“It is one of the greatest honors of my life,” said Fernando Alexandre, assuring that, despite the “very demanding functions” he holds in the Government, he will be present at all municipal assemblies in Braga.
Fernando Alexandre also said that he is counting on everyone in his new role.
"There is much more that unites us than what separates us. We all want what's best for Braga," he stated.
He praised the municipality's "extraordinary trajectory" over the past 12 years and expressed his conviction that this trajectory will continue.
“There is one dimension that we can never forget: solving people's day-to-day problems,” he added, advising that we look to the future “in the medium/long term.”
In the election for the Braga Municipal Assembly, two more lists were presented: one from the Socialist Party (PS), which obtained 23 votes, and one from the independent movement Amar e Servir Braga, which obtained nine votes.
There were also three blank votes.
The Municipal Assembly of Braga is composed of 38 directly elected deputies and the 37 presidents of parish councils.
In the elections of October 12th, the Juntos por Braga coalition also won the Braga City Council, electing three members to the executive, the same number as the Socialist Party and the Amar e Servir Braga movement.
The Chega and Liberal Initiative parties each elected one city councilor.
