Moraes gives Collor 48 hours to prove Parkinson's and bipolar disorder

Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes set, this Monday 28th, a 48-hour deadline for the defense of former president Fernando Collor to present medical documents, as part of a request for humanitarian house arrest.

The lawyers argue that their client is elderly — 75 years old — and has serious comorbidities — Parkinson's disease, severe sleep apnea, and bipolar affective disorder .

Moraes ordered the defense to file documents to prove the allegations, including medical records, medical history and exams. He also ordered the files that the lawyers will send to the Supreme Court to be kept confidential.

After the documents are gathered, Moraes will evaluate the possibility of a statement from Rogério Tuma, the former president's doctor.

Fernando Collor has been in prison since last Friday, the 25th, in the special wing of the Baldomero Cavalcanti de Oliveira prison, in Maceió (AL). The Supreme Court sentenced him to a sentence of eight years and ten months after concluding that the former senator, with the help of businessmen Luis Pereira Duarte de Amorim and Pedro Paulo Bergamaschi de Leoni Ramos, pocketed 20 million reais to illegally facilitate contracts between BR Distribuidora and UTC Engenharia.
