Montenegro says the President will exercise the role granted to him by the Constitution in immigration law

Prime Minister Luís Montenegro said this Sunday that the President of the Republic will exercise the role conferred upon him by the Constitution within the scope of immigration law and reaffirmed that the dialogue with the opposition "does not include any governance agreement."
“The President of the Republic will make an assessment [of the immigration law], a consideration that is simultaneously political and legal, and will exercise the powers granted to him by the Constitution,” he stated.
Luís Montenegro was speaking to journalists upon arrival at Herdade do Chão da Lagoa, located in the mountains overlooking Funchal, where the annual PSD/Madeira party is taking place today, considered the largest party event organized in the region, with thousands of people in attendance.
The Prime Minister, also leader of the PSD's national structure, assured that the executive branch is available to negotiate with all parties, but this "does not include any permanent governance agreement."
"It includes the ability to reach out to all available parties in all legislation," he clarified, adding: "Obviously, we know that there are many issues on which the Socialist Party shares similar positions with us, and then there are other issues on which the Socialist Party is somewhat stubborn regarding the positions it has held during its eight years in government."
