Man remanded in custody for assaulting ex-girlfriend

A 43-year-old man was remanded in custody for assaulting his ex-partner in the municipality of Batalha, Leiria district, the National Republican Guard reported this Saturday.

The suspect was arrested by the Research and Support Unit for Specific Victims (NIAVE), this Friday, as part of an investigation into domestic violence that has been ongoing for approximately two weeks, according to a statement from the Leiria GNR Territorial Command.

The Guard's military personnel found that the attacker was physically and psychologically abusive and was making threats against the victim, his 52-year-old ex-partner. The action culminated in the execution of an arrest warrant.

The detainee was brought before the Leiria Judicial Court, and the coercive measure of preventive detention was applied to him.
