In a statement, IL - which will elect Mariana Leitão as its new president next weekend - announced that today it approved a new batch of local government candidates in the National Council, which join the 30 that had already been given the 'green light' at the same body's meeting on June 15.
With the approval of these new candidacies, IL will now stand in 74 municipalities in the elections on October 12.
Thus, the liberals approved today 44 new candidacies, three dozen of which are on their own lists:
Already in coalition, IL will be on 14 new lists in the next local elections.
These will be Albergaria-a-Velha (PSD/IL), Alenquer (PSD/CDS/IL/NC/MPT/PPM), Arouca (PSD/CDS/PPM/IL), Beja (PSD/CDS/IL), Chaves (PSD/CDS/IL), Coimbra (PSD/CDS-PP/IL/NC/PPM/V/MPT), Faro (PSD/IL/CDS/PAN/MPT), Gondomar (PSD/IL), Lousada (PSD/CDS/IL), Sintra (PSD/IL), Soure (PSD/CDS/IL), Tábua (PSD/CDS/IL), Vila Franca de Xira (PSD/IL) and Vila Nova de Gaia (PSD/CDS/IL).
On June 15, IL decided to run in coalition for Porto City Council in the next local elections, supporting the PSD candidate, former minister Pedro Duarte.
At that National Council, the liberals had already decided on 30 local government candidates, 17 of which were on their own lists and the rest in coalition.
