Gabriel Mithá Ribeiro resigns as deputy for Chega

The Chega parliamentary group announced this Monday that Representative Gabriel Mithá Ribeiro has resigned from his seat and will be replaced by Rui Fernandes. The reasons for the decision have not been revealed.
“It is hereby reported that the deputy elected for the Leiria constituency, Gabriel Mithá Ribeiro, requested, under the terms of article 7 of the Statute of Deputies, to resign from his mandate as deputy, being replaced by Rui Fernandes”, reads the statement sent to the newsrooms.
Mithá Ribeiro was elected deputy in the 15th, 16th, and 17th legislative terms, always representing the Leiria constituency. In June 2024, following the early legislative elections, he was reappointed as secretary of the Assembly of the Republic's board last June.
The deputy is Chega's candidate for the presidency of the Pombal City Council in the local elections on October 12th.
In April, the Parliamentary Transparency Committee concluded that Mithá Ribeiro violated the Code of Conduct for Members of Parliament by attacking and "objectively" disrespecting Socialist MP Isabel Moreira in a text he published on social media. This conclusion was contained in a report of the inquiry, which was prepared by PSD MP António Rodrigues and which received only one vote against from Chega.
