Eduardo Bolsonaro supports Trump's tariffs and advocates amnesty as a solution

Federal Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), on leave, supported US President Donald Trump's initiative to impose a 50% tariff on Brazilian products. According to the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), this situation can only be reversed with a "broad, general, and unrestricted" amnesty.
“It is up to Congress to lead this process, starting with a broad, general, and unrestricted amnesty, followed by new legislation that guarantees freedom of expression — especially online,” he said in a letter signed with Paulo Figueiredo, grandson of dictator João Baptista Figueiredo.
Targeted by the Supreme Federal Court for his actions against Brazilian authorities , the former president's son justified his actions in the United States by "seeking to avoid the worst, prioritizing the individual application of sanctions" to Moraes. Eduardo, who took leave from office in March, currently lives in the US and describes himself as "in exile."
The congressman also urged authorities to avoid escalating the conflict. Brazil is currently subject to a 10% tariff on its products imported from the United States, imposed by Trump on April 2. This tariff is expected to increase to 50% on August 1, according to the Republican leader.
Earlier, President Lula (Workers' Party) cited the recently passed economic reciprocity law in responding to President Trump's announcement. "Any unilateral tariff increase will be met in light of Brazil's economic reciprocity law," he said.
The president also emphasized that the claim that the tariffs were necessary due to a US deficit is false. "Statistics from the United States government itself prove that the United States has had a surplus of approximately $410 billion in trade in goods and services with Brazil over the last 15 years," Lula noted.
