Common Front marches to São Bento for wage increases

The Common Front is organizing a march this Thursday to the Prime Minister's official residence to demand an interim salary increase, career advancement, and the strengthening of public services.
Under the motto “ public services are not commodities ”, the march starts at 11:00 am from the Basílica da Estrela and ends at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Lisbon.
In statements to the Lusa news agency, the coordinator of the Common Front highlights that this concentration was called due to the “ lack of responses to the problems of public administration workers ”, namely the demand “for an interim salary increase” and that it will count on the participation of “hundreds of leaders, delegates and union activists” .
"We do not even consider the possibility of beginning to discuss a salary review in public administration for January of next year," says Sebastião Santana, noting that the law provides for annual general salary negotiations.
The Common Front, affiliated with the CGTP, is demanding a 15% increase in the salaries of public administration workers, with a minimum of 150 euros for everyone.
Sebastião Santana also recalled that the Common Front had once again submitted its common demands to the Government and lamented the “lack of response” to “essential issues” such as “the valorization of careers, the strengthening of public services, the evaluation system and the precariousness of public administration”.
When asked whether he is available to negotiate a new agreement with the Government that covers the current legislature, given that the one signed in November, and which was not signed by the Common Front, only runs until 2028, the coordinator of this union structure assures that "the Common Front does not have a principle, nor has it ever had, of not signing agreements", but "the issue is the content of the agreements".
"If these are impoverishment agreements like the one signed with other unions, we certainly won't sign them. If it's an agreement that values workers, we have no problem signing it, naturally," he states.
In addition to the coordinator of the Common Front, the general secretary of the CGTP, Tiago Oliveira, is expected to be present , and a resolution will be delivered at the end.
