Commission resumes analysis of provisional measure that increases military salaries

The joint committee responsible for Provisional Measure 1,293/2025 will hold a deliberative meeting next Tuesday 8th to evaluate the report that foresees an increase in the salaries of members of the Armed Forces.

The adjustment is divided into two stages: 4.5% this year and 4.5% in 2026. The commission is chaired by Senator Hamilton Mourão (Republicanos-RS) and has deputy Carlos Zarattini (PT-SP) as vice-chairman.

The provisional measure adjusts salaries, the base wages paid to military personnel in the Army, Navy and Air Force. According to the government, the objective is to make up for part of the accumulated salary losses. The proposal, under the rapporteurship of Congressman Eduardo Pazuello (PL-RJ), amends Law 13,954/2019 and received 23 amendments from parliamentarians.

The validity of the MP, issued on March 28, was extended on May 27 by the President of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), which also extended the analysis period by 60 days.

The expectation is that, after the vote in the committee, the text will go to the plenary sessions of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. If it is not approved by the end of the deadline, the provisional measure will lose its validity.

After years of hardship , we are back to a Brazil that is at least somewhat normal. This new normal, however, remains full of uncertainties . The threat from Bolsonaro persists, and the appetites of the market and Congress continue to put pressure on the government. Abroad, the global advance of the far right and the brutality in Gaza and Ukraine risk imploding the fragile foundations of global governance.
