With Covid on the rise, city in Amazonas once again makes the use of masks mandatory

The municipality of São Gabriel da Cachoeira, in Amazonas , has once again determined the use of masks in closed environments to deal with the rise in Covid-19 cases.
According to the text, published last Friday 25, masks are mandatory in public offices; commercial, industrial and banking establishments; churches and religious temples; schools, daycare centers and educational institutions; and public and private transport, such as taxis and ride-hailing cars.
The decree also restricts access to indigenous areas in the city, considered the most indigenous in the country. Entry will only be allowed to people who are up to date with their Covid vaccination or who have tested negative for the disease in the last 48 hours.
The measure complies with a recommendation from the state's Public Defender's Office, based on data from the Health Department that shows the evolution of the disease in the municipality. Last December, there were only 14 positive cases registered, a number that jumped to 334 in January.
The numbers continued to rise. In February, there were 126 confirmed cases of the disease, while March recorded 87 positive cases among 197 suspected cases. In April, until last week, the municipality registered 897 suspected cases, with 378 positive cases.
