Alcoutim promotes free skin cancer screening campaign

Another free screening campaign for cancer and other skin diseases will take place in the municipality of Alcoutim, scheduled for the 19th and 20th of May.

This is the first phase of an initiative by Alcoutim City Council that aims to combat skin cancer and fight misinformation.

This action will screen for pre-malignant and malignant skin lesions, provide information on protective measures to be taken and carry out some treatments with liquid nitrogen on patients with pre-cancerous lesions.

The initiative usually takes place during the months of May and October and is led by dermatologist Manuela Aguiar, who has voluntarily made herself available to collaborate in the municipality's health actions.

Skin cancer screening will take place in five locations in the municipality, namely Alcoutim, Balurcos, Vaqueiros, Giões and Martim Longo.

In the county seat, screening will take place on Monday, May 19, starting at 9:00 am, at the Arts and Crafts Center and at 2:00 pm, at the Nursing Home. Also in the afternoon, screening will take place at the Balurcos Nursing Home.

The following day, Tuesday, it will take place at the Vaqueiros Health Centre, between 9:00 and 11:00 and at the Giões Parish Council building, from 11:30. At 15:00 it will take place at the Martim Longo Physiotherapy Space.

Please note that, in cases where it is not possible to benefit from the “Vamos à vila” Social Bus, the Alcoutim municipality provides transport upon prior registration with the Social Action, Health and Education Unit by telephone (281 540 546).
