Trump wants Wall Street companies to release semiannual results

The US president wants to eliminate quarterly results, which are crucial for investors to assess the health of Wall Street companies.
Donald Trump argues that Wall Street companies should stop releasing quarterly results to save money and allow companies to focus on their core business.
For the US president, publishing results twice a year is sufficient, contradicting the basis of earnings disclosure: maximum transparency of company accounts for investors.
“Subject to SEC [US Securities and Exchange Commission] approval, companies should not be required to [disclose results] on a quarterly basis… but rather on a 6-month basis,” he wrote on social media, as quoted by the Financial Times.
“This will save money and allow managers to focus on running their business,” he added.
Quarterly results “are particularly important to US investors because companies must disclose everything that is important,” including government investigations or other legal matters, recalls the “FT”, which adds that quarterly results are “closely followed on Wall Street to assess the performance of companies”.
There are other markets where there is no obligation to disclose data quarterly, such as Singapore.
