Montijo. Pedro Vieira is the head of the PSD/IL list

Improving the population's living conditions and restoring the municipality's planning capacity are priorities for the PSD/IL coalition candidate for Montijo City Council, Pedro Vieira, in the upcoming local elections.
“ Improving the quality of life is essential for Montijo . One of our priorities is to restore the quality of life for citizens in the most basic aspects, from urban hygiene, cleaning, conservation, maintenance and urban requalification, starting with the recovery of the riverfront”, the candidate of the PSD/IL coalition told Lusa this Monday.
According to Pedro Vieira, “there is a long-standing desire to change Montijo, because the Socialist Party’s governance has been exhausted for over a decade. It is visible in everything that happens in Montijo, the lack of planning, the lack of improvement in the population’s living conditions .”
The 53-year-old candidate, an architect, was a councilor at the Montijo City Council between 2013 and 2017 and has been a member of the Municipal Assembly since 2017, being the current coordinator of the social-democratic bench in that local authority body.
For the head of the PSD/IL coalition list, the municipality of Montijo also needs good strategic planning .
“In planning, there are short-term situations and medium- and long-term situations that need to be properly planned, such as the location of a future new hospital. We do not have the capacity to build a hospital from scratch, but we do have the capacity, in terms of the Municipal Master Plan (PDM), in terms of planning, to plan suitable locations for some equipment,” he said.
Pedro Vieira also highlighted the fact that Montijo continues to be governed by the first PDM, from 1997, which should have been reviewed every 10 years, and which still provides for the use of the air base as an airport.
The Montijo Council is currently led by Maria Clara Silva (PS), with two more socialist councillors in the executive, two councillors elected by the PSD/CDS-PP/A coalition and two other councillors elected by the CDU (PCP/PEV).
