Labor Minister calls 6x1 scale 'cruel', but sees no room for immediate end

The Minister of Labor, Luiz Marinho (PT), said this Saturday 10, in São Paulo, that the 6x1 workday is “cruel”, but stated that he does not see the possibility of immediately ending this type of scale.
According to the PT member, the government is in favor of reducing working hours, based on a “healthy debate”, in order to avoid “a scare for businesspeople”.
“I see that it would be entirely possible for Congress to approve the reduction of the working week to 40 hours immediately, without a reduction in salary, and to begin a mature process of debate on the gradual construction of an end to 6x1”, he added.
The statement came after Marinho's visit to the fifth edition of the National Agrarian Reform Fair, promoted by the Landless Rural Workers' Movement, the MST, in the capital of São Paulo.
In a speech on Labor Day, President Lula (PT) had already stated that the government will deepen the debate on the end of the 6×1 scale .
According to him, this is “the time for Brazil to take this step, listening to all sectors of society, to allow a balance between professional life and the well-being of workers”.

After years of hardship , we are back to a Brazil that is at least somewhat normal. This new normal, however, remains full of uncertainties . The threat from Bolsonaro persists, and the appetites of the market and Congress continue to put pressure on the government. Abroad, the global advance of the far right and the brutality in Gaza and Ukraine risk imploding the fragile foundations of global governance.
