The concert, to be held at the Vianna da Motta Auditorium, is part of the postgraduate week in applied musical composition, at the Lisbon School of Music, and brings to fruition the seventh part of 'Sangue Inverso - Inverso Sangue', a work for different instrumental ensembles, under construction over the last few years, consisting of movements that can be performed individually or simultaneously.
In 'Sangue Inverso - Inverso Sangue', each piece, individually or in sequence, is played with its inverse, and can even be followed by a third that results from the overlapping of the previous ones.
Each piece is named after a mineral, a fossil, a rock - magnetite, amber, amethyst, granite, obsidian, cinnabar, in the previous cases -, suggesting "colors, sensations, values, vibrations, ideas", in a construction "at once simple and complex, which explores the connections between the singular and the collective".
The premiere accompanies the awarding to Jaime Reis of the Scientific Awards from the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (IPL) - Caixa Geral de Depósitos and the Recognition of Activities with Relevance in the Community, awarded annually by the IPL.
Jaime Reis, a composer, researcher, and professor at the Lisbon School of Music, is the first person to receive both awards in the same year, which target the areas of knowledge of the Polytechnic of Lisbon, which include arts, social sciences, technology, and engineering.
The awards are intended to recognize and value the merit and contribution of members of the academic community, both in the field of scientific production and artistic creation, and in their interaction with society, according to the IPL.
In the case of the IPL-CGD Scientific Awards, the focus is on excellence in research and creation, while the Awards for Recognition of Activities with Relevance in the Community recognize initiatives that build bridges between academia and civil society, adds the IPL.
With an internationally recognized career in contemporary music and artistic research, Jaime Reis joins composers such as Luís Tinoco, Ricardo Pinheiro, and Carlos Caires, who have won awards in previous editions.
