Domestic violence. Repeat offender in preventive custody

A 65-year-old man was arrested and held in preventive detention on suspicion of reoffending the crime of domestic violence against his ex-partner, in Montemor-o-Novo, in the district of Évora, the Public Ministry (MP) announced.
In a statement published on the website of the Regional Attorney General's Office of Évora , consulted this Monday by the Lusa agency, the MP indicated that the suspect has been indicted for several months, having been subject, since February 5 of this year, to coercive measures.
The man was then prohibited from contacting the victim by any means , subject to remote monitoring, and from remaining or approaching his ex-partner's residence and workplace. At the time, the defendant was also required to undergo counseling and treatment for alcohol addiction.
According to the MP, at least since May and until the 17th of this month, the man “failed to comply with the prohibitions and once again harassed” his ex-partner, aged 53. This time, he used “third parties to continue to persecute her, to control her daily movements” and expressed “the intention of killing her” , it said.
The Public Prosecutor's Office stressed that the suspect was now detained following the issuance of arrest warrants outside of flagrant crime and, after being present on Friday for the first judicial interrogation, he was held in preventive detention.
“After the interrogation and once again recognizing the obvious dangers of continuing criminal activity and disrupting the investigation, the Public Prosecutor's Office promoted the application of a coercive measure of preventive detention, which was agreed to by the criminal investigation judge,” he noted.
Investigations continue under the direction of the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) of Montemor-o-Novo with the assistance of the GNR.
