Alexander Payne chosen as president of Venice jury

American filmmaker Alexander Payne will preside over the jury at the 82nd edition of the Venice Film Festival, the event's organizers announced on Monday (28).
"It is a great honor and joy to be part of the jury in Venice. While I share a filmmaker's ambivalence towards comparing films to one another, I revere the nearly 100-year history of the Venice Film Festival, which celebrates cinema as an art form," said Payne, who will preside over a jury made up of up to nine figures from the world of cinema and culture from different countries.
Payne has twice won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay, and his work has been nominated four times for Best Picture and three times for Best Director. His filmography includes "Nebraska," "The Rejects," "Sideways" and "The Descendants."
The next edition of the Venice Film Festival will take place from August 27 to September 6 on the Lido island. The films in competition will be announced in July.
