Russia announces meeting between Trump and Putin 'in the coming days'

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin plan to meet "in the coming days" and preparations for the summit have already begun, Russian President Vladimir Putin's diplomatic adviser, Yuri Ushakov, said Thursday, 7, as cited by the country's state news agencies.
"At the suggestion of the American side, we reached an agreement in principle to organize a bilateral meeting in the coming days," Ushakov said.
"We are starting to work out the details alongside our American colleagues," Ushakov added. "We have set a target of next week," he added.
The meeting would be the first between a sitting US president and the Russian president since Joe Biden met with Putin in Geneva in June 2021.
The announcement comes a day after US envoy Steve Witkoff met with Putin in Moscow as part of Trump's attempt to negotiate an end to Russia's military offensive in Ukraine.
Witkoff proposed a trilateral meeting that would also include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky , but Russia did not respond to the proposal, Ushakov said.
“The Russian side left this option completely uncommented,” he said.
