PSP arrests man for several robberies in Vila Real de Santo António

A 46-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday, July 2, on strong suspicion of carrying out robberies on public roads and thefts from commercial establishments in Vila Real de Santo António, the Public Security Police ( PSP ) revealed today in a statement.

«Having verified an abnormal record of crimes against property in Vila Real de Santo António, given that the record of criminal situations in this city is usually very low, an investigation was immediately launched, in which it was possible to identify a suspect, who would be responsible or co-responsible for the vast majority of them», reads the same document.

The PSP states that, in collaboration with the Department of Investigation and Criminal Prosecution (DIAP) of Faro, “strong evidence” was gathered in relation to at least 10 crimes – robberies on public roads, qualified thefts, simple thefts and damage to commercial establishments – registered over the last few months in the Algarve municipalities of Vila Real de Santo António and Castro Marim.

According to the note, the Public Prosecutor's Office ordered the suspect's arrest, having issued an arrest warrant that led to the detention.

The man appeared in court on Thursday, July 3, and was given the most serious coercive measure, preventive detention.
