Lithium: José Luís Carneiro says his position “will be the same as that of the mayor”

José Luís Carneiro is confident about Fátima Fernandes' victory in the local elections, scheduled for October.
This Sunday, at the Santuário da Piedade, in Montalegre, where the current president's candidacy was presented, the PS secretary-general had no doubts in stating that "it is a winning project", highlighting the work that has been done "in favor of local development and improving people's living conditions".
In his speech, José Luís Carneiro praised the municipality's indigenous products. During his farewell speech, VTM questioned the socialist leader about lithium mining in the region, which could jeopardize all these products and also the municipality's World Agricultural Heritage designation. Without elaborating, José Luís Carneiro stated that "my position on this matter will be the same as that of the mayor: that Portugal must value its resources and do so with respect for the environment and environmental sustainability."
At a time when information is more important than ever, support regional and local journalism. Access to most VTM news is (still) free, but it's not free; journalism costs money and requires investment. This contribution is a way to directly support A Voz de Trás-os-Montes and its journalists. Our counterpart is independent and local journalism, but not only that. It means continuing to inform despite all contingencies; we never stop for a single day.
