Guimarães band Unsafe Space Garden plays on the first day of the festival.

Paredes de Coura is just around the corner. The festival kicks off this Wednesday, the 13th, and on the very first day, there's Unsafe Space Garden to see and hear. The Guimarães-based band, known for their musical fusion (ranging from pop to psychedelic music) and unique look (they paint their faces and wear colorful tunics), makes their debut at this event, and lead singer Alexandra Saldanha tells CM that they couldn't be happier. "We've all been spectators at Paredes de Coura, and playing there now is an honor and a joy," she reveals, promising to "do everything" to put on a "memorable" show. "We have 40 minutes to play, we'll perform a mix of old and new songs, but above all, we want to give it our all with a lot of energy," assures Alexandra Saldanha, who adds that the concert has a 'theme.' "We usually do a bit of theater in our shows, and this one will be: 'Long live Paredes and down with the walls,'" the singer explains. “We want to break down all walls, whether physical or emotional,” he explains.

Founded in 2019 and already with four albums released (plus an EP), Unsafe Space Garden recognizes that being a musician in Portugal "is extremely difficult." "Releasing albums isn't particularly complicated, but playing live is. We're seven musicians on stage—who can afford that? That's why this festival appearance is so important to us—especially considering it's a historic event like Paredes de Coura," they conclude.
