Fire in Tabuaço “is far” from being controlled

The commander of the Tabuaço Volunteer Fire Department, Filipe Carvalho, told Lusa news agency today that the fire is far from being under control, given that there is an active front that is “very worrying”.

"The fire has two fronts: one is consolidating, and the other is active and causing us a lot of trouble. It's a major concern, especially given the difficult access, and it's far from being contained," the commander said at 4:30 p.m., adding that "there are currently no areas at risk" and that the fire is raging "in an area of scrubland and pine forest."

At this time, there are 225 operatives on the ground, supported by 68 vehicles and five aerial resources, according to the official website of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC).

The alert was given at 10:27 pm on Sunday, in the parish of Távora and Pinheiro, in the municipality of Tabuaço.
