Iga Świątek spoke out after the Montreal demolition. Here's what she had to say about the German woman.

"It's always fun here. I'm glad I had the chance to play here again; it was a solid match. I think it was different than our last one," Świątek said. The players previously faced each other twice: in 2022 in Stuttgart and in January 2025 at the Australian Open. The Pole didn't drop a set in either match. However, in Australia, she only allowed one game to break away, and the match scenario in Canada was significantly different.

This time, the German achieved her best result against the Pole, winning four games . Throughout the match, the smiling tennis player nonetheless celebrated each victory.

"I'm focusing on myself, I know what my plan is. Eva played well down the line, played fast balls. It wasn't easy, but I got the job done," Iga Świątek praised her opponent.

A few hours earlier, she'd met her potential fourth-round opponent . And a familiar one at that. Just a few days earlier, she'd battled Clara Tauson for a Wimbledon quarterfinal spot. It was a bizarre match. Two consecutive double faults to start, a break, and helplessness on her opponent's returns, and the Polish player found herself down 1-3 after four games with four double faults, only to ultimately win decisively 6-4, 6-1. After the first set, the fading Dane signaled trouble. She requested a medical timeout, had trouble breathing, and was using nasal medication. "I couldn't breathe, and it's hard to play against Iga like that," she admitted after the match. So she doesn't want a repeat of the result or that scenario.
