Iga Świątek's match was tense. The Polish player didn't let the victory slip from her grasp!

Iga Świątek is climbing the tournament ladder in Cincinnati . The Pole defeated Anastazja Potapova (6:1, 6:4) and was scheduled to face Marta Kostiuk in the next round. However, the match did not take place due to the Ukrainian's health problems.

"I gave everything I had to be ready to play in Cincinnati. Thanks to the help of my amazing team, I was able to get on the court and finish yesterday's match," Kostiuk wrote on social media, referring to the earlier stage of the tournament. " I played through the pain, and that meant a lot to me , but I have to listen to my body. I'll focus on getting healthy, getting stronger, and coming back fully prepared to play. Thank you, Cincinnati. See you soon, New York," she added in the Instagram post.

Iga Świątek vs. Sorana Cirstea. Breakthrough at the Start

Iga Świątek faced Sorana Cirstea in the Round of 16. The Polish player couldn't have imagined a better start to the match, breaking her opponent in the first game thanks to, among other things, accurate forehand and backhand shots. Świątek displayed a very confident serve, establishing a situational advantage early in the rallies.

In the seventh game, Iga Świątek shifted into high gear and earned two break points. But the Romanian didn't give up. She didn't let up and swung the game to her advantage, taking the score to 4-3. Less than 50 minutes later, Iga Świątek converted her second set point to triumph 6-4.

The second set began with a flurry of breaks . Sorana Cirstea misfired on her backhand and on the return. Iga Świątek seized the opportunity and converted a break point, taking a 1-0 lead. Moments later, the tide turned, and the Pole was forced to defend against a break point. She failed, and a well-placed backhand from the Romanian tied the game at 1-1. The Pole won the next two games (3-1).

In the fifth game, Świątek's opponent's play fell apart, and several outs, combined with accurate shots from the Polish player, led to a 4-1 score. Just when it seemed Świątek was on the verge of winning, Cirstea broke the Polish player (4-2). In the next game, she almost broke again, but the Romanian defended, making it 4-3. It was to no avail, as Świątek dominated the next two games. She hit the final ball with a well-placed forehand down the line. The Polish player triumphed 6-4, 6-3.
