Hubert Hurkacz's match interrupted! The Pole managed to beat Iga Świątek

Looking at the ATP rankings, Jakub Mensik was the favorite before the match. The Czech was number 20 in the tournament bracket in the Italian capital. In the case of Hubert Hurkacz, this was one of the lowest seeds, i.e. thirty to his name.
ATP 1000 Rome: Tough fight between Hubert Hurkacz and Jakub MensikThe Wrocław native has not been able to boast particularly successful performances in recent weeks, or rather months. And that's a mild description, because the tennis player who was in the top ten of the ATP rankings last year is now far below his actual skills.
Who knows, perhaps the breakthrough tournament to set a new course for good results is this year's ATP 1000 in Rome. The Pole came to the Italian clay as last year's quarterfinalist. He plays very pleasantly in the capital of Italy, it is clear that "Hubi" feels good in these realities. Although, paradoxically, the Pole is rather valued for playing on a fast, hard surface, and he achieved his greatest Grand Slam success... on the London grass during Wimbledon (2021).
Mensik is one of the most talented young tennis players. The Czech will only turn 20 on September 1st, but he already has a victory in the ATP 1000 tournament in Miami under his belt. At the end of March, Mensik beat Novak Djokovic in the final in Florida, which shows the scale of this boy's abilities.
In the clash with Hurkacz, however, we saw a tough, manly fight. A funny story was the fact that both gentlemen dressed… almost identically. The only difference was the style of wearing the cap with a peak, the Pole in the front version, and Mensik in the back.
And what about purely sporting matters? Powerful service from both sides and guarding games on their serve, but also quite good exchanges, interesting tennis. The first set brought a lot of emotions, eventually ending with the score 7:6, in the tie-break 7:5 in favor of the Pole. Interesting play began with the score 4:5 to Hurkacz's disadvantage, when he had to defend set balls by serving. After winning set number 1, dark clouds gathered over the court and the match had to be interrupted. This was not the only such story, as the next minutes of the match showed.
After returning to the court, the Pole lost his service game once (3:4) and that was enough for the Czech to achieve his goal and close the set. Mensik won 6:4 and it became 1:1, but in the third set, the match had to be suspended again - due to rain.
Regardless of the final results, Hurkacz is playing really well in Rome. What's more, the Pole unexpectedly outdid Iga Świątek, who in the capital of Italy only made it to the third round, losing sensationally to Danielle Collins . Magdalena Fręch and Magda Linette also said goodbye to the competition at the same stage.
