Correspondence from Kozerek. Tomasz Berkieta and Maks Kaśnikowski in the second round
The winners of today's matches deserve recognition. Tomasz Berkieta and Maks Kaśnikowski had just one day to acclimate to the hard court. On Sunday, they played the ITF M25 final in Koszalin on clay courts, with the 22-year-old emerging victorious.
Tomasz Berkieta played against Matias Soto. Given the circumstances, a surprise was brewing from the start. The Pole looked familiar with this surface. He served with inspiration and showed class in key moments. Both sets were decided in tie-breaks, with Berkieta winning by five. This brings us to a Polish singles match – Kamil Majchrzak versus Tomasz Berkieta.
Maks Kaśnikowski theoretically had a more difficult task. The French seed, Hugo Grenier, stood in his way. After a slow start, he recovered from a break point and nearly took another in the ninth game. The Pole made several errors late in the set and had to chase the lead. The second set started without a hitch – eight straight points and a 2-0 lead. Grenier continued. Kaśnikowski was two points from defeat, but showed his fighting spirit and won the tiebreak. The deciding set was now completely under his control. Two early breaks were enough for his sixth consecutive victory. Tomorrow, he will face qualifier Daniil Glinka.
