Tauron's new solution in response to changes in the energy market

- The new demand map for flexibility services will help solve local energy challenges and increase grid reliability.
- This is another step towards the development of flexibility services and support for suppliers providing them to TAURON Dystrybucja.
- Customer support – flexibility certificates, innovative G14d and G13s tariffs and planned IDC and IRB mechanisms enable cheaper and more efficient use of energy.
Flexibility in the energy sector means the ability of the power system to dynamically respond to changes in electricity production and consumption.
Through flexibility services, Tauron aims to increase the reliability of its distribution grid and improve its development efficiency. The flexibility service demand map shows where to seek support from grid users to collaboratively address local energy challenges.
A step towards building a more resilient and efficient infrastructure"This is another step towards building a more resilient and efficient infrastructure in partnership with service providers for Tauron Dystrybucja. The map shows the Main Supply Points (GPZs) where we have identified demand for flexibility services. We plan to conduct procedures for selecting flexibility service providers in these locations," says Maciej Mróz, Vice President of Operations at Tauron Dystrybucja.
The map that Tauron offers to its clients was created based on network analyses conducted throughout the company's operating area in order to indicate places where flexibility services can be applied.
The company also included over 90 cases of network constraints in its Development Plan, for which it will seek flexible solutions in the coming years.
Later this year, it also plans to develop a forecasting tool that will help identify the need for flexibility services based on network data, load forecasts, and distributed generation.
New tariffs to support flexibilityIn 2024, Tauron Dystrybucja signed its first contracts for the provision of flexibility services, with further contracts in preparation. The company also launched the process of issuing flexibility certificates to customers, which streamline the process of selecting providers of these services in subsequent procedures, as well as the allocation of their flexibility resources to appropriate locations and network nodes.
In 2025, innovative tariffs were also introduced – the dynamic G14d and the seasonal G13s tariffs – which allow customers to benefit from cheaper energy during peak renewable energy production hours. This allows consumers not only to save money but also actively support grid stability.
Tauron is also currently working on implementing new mechanisms, such as Interventional Active Power Supply (IDC) and Interventional Reactive Power Control (IRB). These will help better utilize excess energy from renewable sources and avoid overloads.
Tauron assures that such solutions will benefit everyone: customers, the grid, and the environment. Customers will be able to purchase cheaper energy during periods of excess capacity in the grid, while avoiding fees for exceeding contracted capacity.
Flexibility is one of the strategic directions of the company's developmentThanks to the use of this mechanism, Tauron Dystrybucja will be able to prevent network constraints (excessive loads, voltage increases) and also increase local energy consumption.
"Based on market observations, we estimate that interest in this service could reach several hundred customers. We have just appointed a team to implement the necessary changes to the Distribution Network Operation and Maintenance Instructions and the Electricity Distribution Services Tariff, as well as to service processes and IT systems. We are also working on forecasting tools that will help us better anticipate needs and respond to changes," adds Maciej Mróz.
Flexibility is one of the company's strategic development directions. It allows us to increase the efficiency of existing infrastructure and offer our clients new opportunities. Therefore, the company invites them to collaborate with us to create a more flexible and modern energy system.
