Attack on Kyiv right after Donald Trump's ultimatumThe massive attack on Kyiv came just after Donald Trump reiterated his ultimatum to Russia, giving it 10 days (until August 8th) to make significant progress in talks to end the war in Ukraine. If progress is not made, Trump announced the imposition of new tariffs on Russia, including 100% secondary tariffs on countries importing Russian raw materials (including India and China). Initially, Trump had given Russia more time – on July 14th, he spoke of 50 days – but on Monday, he admitted to being disappointed with Vladimir Putin and stated that he "thinks he already knows what's going to happen." According to Trump, Putin intends to continue the war.
Meaghan Mobbs, daughter of the US Presidential Special Envoy for Russia and Ukraine, Gen. Keith Kellogg, wrote on X that the attack on Kyiv is "Putin's response to Trump's ultimatum." "It tests American resolve and strength," she added.
