Musical legends of the '90s are getting their own musical. For many, they are the embodiment of kitsch.
The Danish band Aqua triumphed in the 1990s with their hit "Barbie Girl." The song stormed the charts. Some consider it a musical manifesto against artificiality and consumerism, while others consider it the embodiment of kitsch. This doesn't change the fact that it propelled the band to global fame. Although Aqua's popularity has faded over the years, the band may once again be making waves thanks to the musical it inspired.
"Aqua The Musical" is scheduled to premiere in 2028. The Danish company AHA Creations is producing. According to the announcement, the musical will center around the band's story. The show will feature the band's greatest hits. The musical will premiere in Copenhagen at the Royal Theatre . It will also eventually be performed on Broadway in New York and in London's West End.

Who is the Aqua team?The band gained international recognition with their 1997 hit "Barbie Girl." The single promoted the group's debut studio album, "Aquarium." In 2000, they released their second album, "Aquarius." A year later, despite a string of successes, the band went on hiatus, returning to the stage in 2007.
Four years later, their next album, "Megalomania," was released. Despite their modest discography, the band has sold approximately 33 million albums and singles worldwide, making them the highest-grossing Danish band of all time.
