Generation Z's Favorite Brand Unveils Its First Sandals for Summer 2025. Birkenstocks Face Serious Competition

In Taormina, Sicily, the Veja brand presented its first sandals, thus expanding its product range with a new shoe model. This is a major event not only for the brand itself but also for its fans worldwide, who until now could only choose sneakers. The Etna model, which evokes the aesthetic of dad sandals, redefines summer style.
Veja has accustomed its fans to high-quality sneakers, which, thanks to their minimalist design, high-quality materials, and precision craftsmanship, have earned the admiration of not only popular celebrities but also royalty. Now, the French-Brazilian brand has decided to expand its line of iconic shoe models with sandals that further the brand's mission.
For 20 years, Veja has been renowned for its ethical approach to footwear production, focusing on eco-friendly materials, certified leather, and natural rubber sourced without harming the Amazon rainforest. The Etna model, named after the famous Sicilian volcano, is an invitation to explore the world with ease, style, and responsibility.

The Etna is a model deeply rooted in the brand's Brazilian heritage. The sole, made of rubber sourced from the Amazon, is not only a nod to local traditions but also the result of Veja's long-standing collaboration with local producers whose methods contribute to deforestation. A lightweight, grippy, and exceptionally durable sole is a key element of this model, designed to withstand both the demanding surfaces of Sicilian streets and the challenges of off-road hiking.

The upper features two wide straps, echoing the aesthetic of dad sandals. The shoes are made of OT (Organic Traced) certified suede leather , and each strap features Velcro fasteners embroidered with the Veja logo and four decorative crosses. Currently, the models are available in six colors (the brand may expand its palette over time): black, beige, taupe, khaki, purple, and orange.
These sandals are lightweight, stable, and, thanks to their contoured soles, incredibly comfortable, even after hours of wear. The suede is impregnated, protecting the material from light rain, making them functional not only in full sun.

The Etna model premiered in a location that perfectly captures its character: Taormina, Sicily. This city, nestled at the foot of Mount Etna, became the natural setting for the presentation of the new sandals, which combine urban functionality with an adventurous spirit. Guests at the event —influencers, journalists, and locals —admired the new model to the sounds of a DJ set and enjoyed delicious Sicilian granita.
Veja has created sandals that not only look great but, above all, meet the needs of increasingly demanding consumers – those seeking a balance between lifestyle and caring for the planet. The Etna model retails for approximately €120 (less than 500 PLN) and is available both online and in select concept stores worldwide.
