ZUS is taking on pensioners. Changes are coming in June

From 1 June 2025, new limits on earning extra money will come into effect for retirees who have not reached the statutory retirement age. For many of them, this means that they will have to plan their additional income more carefully. Exceeding the limits may result in a reduction or complete suspension of benefits from the Social Insurance Institution.
The changes will apply to people who have retired early and have not yet reached the statutory retirement age, which is 60 for women and 65 for men . Seniors who have exceeded this threshold can still earn extra money without restrictions.
SEE: Pensioners have until the end of May to do so. Otherwise, they will lose their ZUS benefits.
For people under retirement age, so-called income limits apply. After exceeding them, ZUS has the right to reduce or suspend the payment of benefits.
The new thresholds will apply from 1 June 2025 .
How much extra can a senior earn from June 2025?According to ZUS, the limits are set on the basis of the average monthly salary in the national economy, published by the Central Statistical Office (GUS).
SEE: These seniors can take advantage of early retirement. However, ZUS sets conditions
The latest data for the first quarter of 2025 were published on the GUS website in a press release of 24 April 2025 (reference number 01/03/25-GUS). On this basis, new limits were established:
- the pension is reduced after exceeding 70% of the average salary, i.e. PLN 6,273.60 gross per month
- Suspension of payments is possible after exceeding 130% of the average salary, i.e. PLN 11,650.97 gross per month
According to the regulations, a pensioner who earns extra money and exceeds the limits may have their benefit temporarily reduced . Then the amount paid will be reduced in proportion to the excess of the additional earnings limit.

However, in the event of a significant exceedance, the benefit may be suspended entirely . ZUS performs a recalculation once a quarter. If the pensioner does not inform about exceeding the limit, he or she may be called upon to return the overpaid amount .
How to avoid problems with ZUS?ZUS reminds that people receiving early retirement are required to report their income from gainful employment, including employment contracts, contracts of mandate or business activity. Seniors should monitor themselves whether their income does not exceed the thresholds.
To avoid problems you should:
- report your income to ZUS regularly (e.g. quarterly)
- check the current limits on the zus.pl website
- in case of doubts, take advantage of a free consultation at a ZUS office
The rules for earning extra money for early retirees have been in place for years, but they still raise many questions. Experts remind us that the income limits change every three months and depend on the economic situation in the country.
