Gas stove owners are worried about money. They are waiting for the government to make a move.

• In the new version of Clean Air there is no longer financing for gas boilers.

What's next for gas boilers after the EU decision? In the new version of Clean Air, after a break at the end of last year, there is no longer financing for gas boilers, which was predictable and results from EU regulations - writes Aleksandra Majda for money.pl.

Gas, extremely popular in Polish homes, is being withdrawn from the EU market, and from 2030 the installation of gas boilers in new buildings is to be prohibited.

Gas heating is widely used in Poland - it is used by about 2 million households. Over 230 thousand gas boilers were purchased as part of a subsidy from the government program Clean Air and gas was the most frequently chosen alternative to old furnaces by beneficiaries.

As the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management recently announced, work is underway "on the component of the program concerning co-financing of gas boilers for those who replaced an off-grade solid fuel boiler with a gas boiler in 2024, but due to the suspension of applications in the program, they were unable to apply for co-financing" - writes money.pl.

As the portal adds, a separate recruitment is planned for these people "as part of a program financed from funds that are covered by a derogation from the EU ban on co-financing individual gas boilers from 2025." The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management declares that it will provide details after the current work is finalized. When exactly - it is not known.

Money.pl reminds that the European Union has been signaling for years that gas will only be a transitional fuel and has been preparing legal grounds for abandoning it.

For example, the amended EU Energy Efficiency Directive on Buildings (EPBD) does not provide for financing of fossil fuel installations from 1 January 2025, with the exception of boilers selected for investment before 2025 under the National Recovery Plan. However, from 2030, the installation of gas boilers in new buildings is to be prohibited, because they should be built as zero-emission from then on.

Older buildings will have to be converted to zero-emission by 2050. Today, across the EU, two thirds of the energy used to heat and cool buildings still comes from fossil fuels.
