On July 19, at 1:31 p.m., the fire department dispatcher sent two rescue and fire-fighting units to Krościna Mała.

"Upon arrival at the scene, units found a car on fire in the emergency lane at km 126.5 of the S5 expressway towards Poznań. Upon arrival, the Peugeot passenger car was fully engulfed in flames. Only the driver was in the vehicle, and he exited it on his own. The driver was uninjured as a result of the fire, " said Dariusz Zajączkowski, press officer for the State Fire Service in Trzebnica.

Firefighters secured the area, and the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) road services stopped traffic. The spokesman added that firefighters used two jets of heavy-duty foam, using a rapid attack, to attack the burning car. The fire was extinguished, but little remained of the Peugeot. The wreckage was returned to the owner. The operation lasted just over an hour.
