Tender for construction of Mierzyn bypass begins

A tender notice for the construction of the Mierzyn bypass along national road no. 10 has been sent to the Official Journal of the European Union. This is a joint investment by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways and the City of Szczecin. It will provide access to the Western Bypass of Szczecin along the S6, for which a tender has also been announced.
On Tuesday (13 May) the tender documentation will be published on the GDDKiA purchasing platform.
The transit will bypass Mierzyn- The Mierzyn bypass will be a key connection between Szczecin and the city's Western Bypass along the S6. Thanks to this investment, transit from national road no. 10 will also bypass Mierzyn, which is congested during rush hours. The joint implementation of this investment by GDDKiA and the City of Szczecin is a model example of cooperation between the government and local government in infrastructure investments - said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchewka.
The new road will be halfway through Szczecin, where the roads are managed by the city president. Therefore, the investment must be carried out jointly by GDDKiA and the local government. In 2022, both parties signed an agreement on preparatory work. On its basis, a construction project was prepared.
- The documentation for the road was ready last year, which allowed us to start the procedure of obtaining a decision on the permit for the implementation of a road investment (ZRiD) - reports Mateusz Grzeszczuk from the Szczecin branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways. - At the beginning of this year, we signed an agreement with the City of Szczecin covering the construction works stage. Each party will bear the costs of the works on its own territory.
The investment will be carried out in the so-called build system. Works will be able to start soon after signing the contract with the contractor, which should take place this year. The investment is planned to be completed in 2028.
Access to the Western Bypass of SzczecinCurrently, DK10, which runs from Szczecin towards the Polish-German border, runs through densely built-up Mierzyn. Traffic jams form on the road every day during rush hours. At the connection of DK10 with the Western Bypass of Szczecin, the Szczecin Zachód junction will be built, which will be one of the main connections to the city center.
- The DK10 currently running through Mierzyn would not be able to handle the additional traffic, which is why a new route of this road is needed. It will provide proper access to the express bypass of Szczecin - explains Mateusz Grzeszczuk.
The beginning of the road from Szczecin will be the intersection at the end of Ku Słońcu Street in the area of the existing shopping center. This initial section, over 200 m long, is the area of the City of Szczecin. Then the route will run north to the junction of Topolowa and Łukasińskiego Streets. GDDKiA will be responsible for this section, approximately 1.2 km long. Then the route will return to Szczecin and run west, partially passing through the area of allotment gardens. After approximately 2.1 km, the road will leave the city area. Then the new DK10 will reach the Szczecin Zachód (Dołuje) junction after approximately 1.3 km. GDDKiA is responsible for this last section.
