Speed bumps are designed to force drivers to slow down, which in turn calms traffic. Residents see them as a potential safety improvement in the area around 22 Stycznia Street.
[middle1]"Other locations in the city are seeing speed limiters in the form of so-called sleeping police officers, which effectively curb drivers' impulses. Why can't one be placed on 22 Stycznia Street? I observe what's happening on this street every day. Cars leaving Racławicka Street accelerate quickly, and their drivers don't always consider the possibility of a child playing in the playground or skatepark running out into the road. And teenagers and children hang around this area constantly because of both facilities, and they don't always use the marked pedestrian crossing. A 'sleeping police officer' could stop cars speeding above the legal limit," argues one resident of 22 Stycznia Street.
He also informs that the matter has already been dealt with by the Estate Council, but without the expected result.
"Continuing towards Kmieci, drivers encounter an obstacle in the form of a speed bump. Why couldn't one be installed on January 22nd?" he points out, adding that its presence would certainly protect pedestrians and ensure calmer traffic in an area frequented by children and teenagers.
We asked Janusz Łukasiewicz, head of the Communication, Transport and Roads Department of the Przemyśl Municipal Office, about the possibility of implementing such a solution in the location indicated by the residents.
