On Friday afternoon, August 1st, a fire broke out in an apartment building in Szklarska Poręba (Lower Silesian Voivodeship). The sauna caught fire. Although the fire was quickly contained, the rescue operation could have ended in tragedy.

The barrier hindered the actionWhen rescuers arrived , they encountered a barrier. Literally! A barrier blocked the entrance. Then another problem arose. The entrance door would only open after entering a code.
"Terrified people were screaming from their balconies, giving us codes," one firefighter reported, as quoted by local media. One of the rescuers only managed to get inside when a child opened the balcony for him.
A total of 45 people were evacuated. The fire was quickly brought under control. No one was injured, but the entire operation revealed serious problems with the building's accessibility for emergency services.
