Another extremely interesting cycling race will visit our region. The Orlen Race of Nations starts tomorrow, May 14th. The next day, the cyclists will start the 2nd stage from Jarosław, competing for three days also on the routes of the Fredropol commune. Our editorial office is one of the media patrons of this event. We invite you to cheer on the route!
The Orlen Race of Nations is one of the most important events for cyclists under 23. The prestigious stage race has once again gathered the best riders in this age category at the start, and the starting list will also include the Polish national team and three local teams.
Over the course of 6 years, the competition, organized and managed by Czesław Lang, has gained a reputation as one of the most important events for young cyclists. Top cyclists under 23 regularly come to Poland, hoping to make a name for themselves in the cycling world. As one of three races included in the UCI Nations Cup – the most important series of events in this age category – the Orlen Nations Race is watched by thousands of fans, as well as scouts of top division teams.
It is not without reason that the vast majority of riders who have achieved success on the Polish race track later sign professional contracts with World Tour or ProTeams teams. Some of the first triumphs at this level were achieved here by, among others, Olav Kooij and Marijn van den Berg. Both Dutchmen currently have victories in stages of the Tour de Pologne UCI World Tour!
In the last edition of the race, the general classification of Orlen – the title sponsor of the race – was won by Frenchman Mathys Rondel. The 21-year-old joined Tudor Pro Cycling a few months later and currently races alongside Julian Alaphilippe, a former world champion.
Many talented competitors will also be at the start of this year's edition of the ORLEN Race of Nations in Łańcut. All the largest cycling nations will take part in the race, including: Belgium, Italy, Great Britain, France, Denmark and Slovenia. The list of teams consisting of 25 will be complemented by the Polish national team, as well as three local teams - KK Tarnovia, GKS Cartusia and Mostostal Puławy - which have been raising Polish competitors for years.
The race organized by Lang Team is a kind of springboard to professional cycling, but the event also has a training dimension. Thanks to the formula of the race without radio communication between the competitors and the sports director, the competitors must make decisions independently at key moments of the competition, thus gaining valuable experience.
– Orlen Race of Nations is more than just racing – it is a chance for young competitors to show themselves to the world, gain experience and enter the path leading to the World Tour. I am glad that we can host the leading national teams in Poland and show them the beauty of Podkarpacie. This year's route will be demanding, but also spectacular, and the finish line at the Arłamów hotel always brings a lot of emotions. For me, the most important thing is that this race combines top-level sport with the promotion of our country. More incredible emotions are ahead of us.
– assured Cz. Lang.
The four-day competition will start in Łańcut and end at the Arłamów hotel, where the finish line of the next three stages will be located. Along the way, the competitors will also visit Jasło, Jarosław, Ustrzyki Dolne and Lesko. On May 15, the second stage of the competition will start in Jarosław. The cyclists will ride along picturesque routes in our region, including: Pełnytycze, Siennów, Łopuszka Wielka, Nienadowa, Brzuska, Korzeniec, Bircza, Aksmanice and Makowa. They will climb, among others, Gruszowa and Kalwaria Pacławska, and in Fredropol on the last day they will compete in a special bonus.
