Forget the Ice Saints: your plants can go into the ground now!

Every year, gardeners anxiously await the Ice Saints. From that moment on, the chance of frost (and therefore damage to your plants) is very rare. The good news is that the last frost of 2025 will fall extra early. That's why you can put all sorts of things in the ground extra early!

Ice Saints is a term used for a few days in May. The Ice Saints 2025 are the days from 11 to 14 May and it is the last period in which night frost can occur. This is important for everyone who gardens, because after these days it is usually safe to put plants outside without risking damage from the cold.

However, the Ice Saints are not holy! Due to climate change, the last frost day falls earlier on average . In the past hundred years, it has been brought forward by two weeks – from May 22 to May 8. But be careful: the magic word here is average , so it can sometimes happen that the last frost day falls a little later – or even earlier. So always keep a close eye on the weather forecast!
Tip!
It looks like the last night frost of spring 2025 has already passed. The chance that we will still get night frost is extremely small, but there can always be regional differences. So always keep an eye on your local weather forecast.

This year, there is no frost in the weather charts for the next two weeks. And it is almost Ice Saints! So you can start hardening off your plants with a clear conscience, and plants that have already been hardened off can go into the open ground. A nice prospect for Mother's Day and already for the long Ascension weekend!
