Ariel Winter: Self-confidence badly damaged by body shaming
Ariel Winter has found comments about her appearance when she was a teenager on the series Modern Family very annoying. "It really damaged my self-confidence," the now 27-year-old actress told the American magazine People.
Winter appeared in the popular series from the age of eleven. She soon began to face comments about her body. "It was everywhere. Every headline I read about myself, like grown people writing articles about me saying I looked horrible or was pregnant or a fat slut."
The actress explained that she took antidepressants in her teens, which caused her to gain 30 pounds. "I couldn't lose that weight, but I prioritized my mental health over that weight," Winter said. The actress later lost the weight. "Then people would say, 'Oh, she's on drugs,' or 'Ugh, she's way too skinny now.' I was just a growing, changing person. It was really hard to be constantly put down."
