The exhibitions of May 1st, from Alda Merini to El Greco

(by Marzia Apice) The homage to Alda Merini, the art of El Greco, the poetic shots of Saul Leiter: these are some of the exhibitions that can be visited during the 1st long weekend May. GORIZIA - photographs, videos, books, artist scarves and digital installations to pay homage to Alda Merini: yes titled "The Crazy Woman Next Door" the exhibition that will be hosted from 1st to 11th May, in the exhibition space The Circle, with works curated by Giuliano Grittini, photographer official and great friend of the poet. The exhibition, part of the larger project "The doors next door. Alda Merini, the artists, the people", celebrates a never forgotten figure as that of the poetess, her unmistakable voice, her a gaze capable of crossing the pain and returning it as poetry, vision, creative resistance. VENICE - Palazzo Ducale hosts from April 30th to September 29th "Painted Gold. El Greco and Painting between Crete and Venice", a edited by Chiara Squarcina, Katerina Dellaporta, Andrea Bellieni. In 7 sections, the exhibition reconstructs the various pictorial phases from the origins in the 15th century, with the first masters who progressively look to the Gothic West - among these Angelos, Akotantos and Andreas Ritzos - to pass with the mature Four hundred with significant similarities with the models of the great Venetian Renaissance - first and foremost those of the Bellinis and the Vivarini - in painters such as Ioannis Permeniatis. Then the Cinquecento, with a focus on El Greco and his encounter, once arrived in Venice, with the surprising art of the mature Titian, of Bassano, of Tintoretto. MONZA - At the Belvedere of the Royal Palace of Monza from May 1st to 27th July the exhibition "Saul Leiter. A window dotted with drops of rain", edited by Anne Morin. Through 126 photographs in black and white, 40 color shots, 42 paintings and rare materials archival, such as original vintage magazines and a document filmic, the exhibition highlights the particular style of the photographer, her pioneering use of color and her rejection of documentary in favor of a fairy-tale realism that blends reality and abstraction. ROME - Until July 27th at the Roman Houses of Celio the ancient meets the contemporary in the exhibition "Patina Memoriae" of the sculptor Alessio Deli. Also open on May 1st, the exhibition brings together 13 works, in which the artist questions the principles fundamental, dear to the Greeks and Romans, of grace and of balance, harmony and proportion, which become engine of a search aimed at the execution, in a modern key, of classical sculpture. TRENTO - The works of 26 artists who explore the concept of monstrosity intertwining contemporary art, history, science and ethnographic testimonies: until June 8th the Galleries of Piedicastello hosts "Monstra. A prodigious exhibition", curated by by Camilla Nacci Zanetti. The exhibition, which can also be visited May 1st, artists explore the imagery of the monstrous, investigating the idea of deformity, the horror of wars and colonialisms, fears related to the feminine, and the taboo of death. CIVITANOVA MARCHE ALTA - From 27th April to 18th May it is in Frammenti program, curated by the Animae association, exhibition spread across several locations, the Ex Tipografia Ciarrocci, the Pescheria Civitanova Alta and the Porta Marina Tower. The project explores the energy of the feminine through the photographs of Francesca Pioli and Ricky Antolini, and a powerful and touching video tribute by Mario Dondero who celebrates real women, portrayed in their strength everyday: in the fields, in the factories, in life. CASERTA - From April 29th to September 2nd the exhibition of the Archive of Caserta State "The liberated Royal Palace. The military occupation Allied, German surrender, restitution to Italy (1943-1947)", edited by Fortunata Manzi and Giuseppe Angelone. The exhibition, among the events of the celebrations for the 80 years since the Liberation, reconstructs through documents and a large photographic corpus the allied military occupation of the Palace where the German surrender was signed on 29 April 1945.
